Our History
The Arden B® story begins in the late 1980s, when entrepreneur Bernard “Bernie” Cohen saw an opportunity in the contemporary fashion market. At the time, there was a lack of affordable, stylish options for the career-minded young woman. Bernard envisioned a brand that could fill this gap. In 1989, he founded Arden B® and opened the first store in Los Angeles.
The debut Arden B® collection focused on delivering sophisticated essentials, relaxed separates, and femininely tailored suits perfect for the office or a night out. The use of rich fabrics and flattering silhouettes ensured the clothing draped beautifully on the female form. Arden B® also paid meticulous attention to fit, pioneering its patented three-size grading system. This unique grading system offered an additional size between standard dress sizes, providing customers with an ergonomically advanced, made-to-measure fit experience.
In the early 1990s, Arden B® began expanding beyond Los Angeles, opening stores nationally. The brand also debuted internationally with its first Canadian location in 1992. Through the decade, Arden B® boutiques opened across the United States and Canada to meet growing demand.
Arden B® saw rapid growth in the 2000s. The brand further expanded its retail presence, including flagship locations in major cities like Chicago, Miami, and Seattle. There was also a growing online presence with the launch of ardenb.com in 2008. The e-commerce site allowed Arden B® to reach customers anywhere, anytime.
